Dennis Gruending is an Ottawa-based writer, a former Member of Parliament.  and author of the blogs Great Canadian Speeches and Pulpit and Politics.  He has worked as a print and television journalist, as a CBC Radio host, and has written or edited eight books. The most recent is Speeches That Changed Canada which was published by Fitzhenry & Whiteside.

His anthology Great Canadian Speeches was a best seller. His book Pulpit and Politics: Competing Religious Ideologies in Canadian Public Life, published in 2011, examined the growing competition between religious progressives and conservatives for power and influence in Canadian politics.

Dennis has also written biographies of Emmett Hall, whose Royal Commission recommended Medicare for Canada, and of former Saskatchewan premier Allan Blakeney.

Dennis holds an Honours degree in English literature from the University of Saskatchewan and and has received a Distinguished Alumni award from the university’s St. Thomas More College. He has a Masters degree in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa. He is a member of The Writers’ Union of Canada and of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians.
